i figured the 404ers might be able to help. the response i got on the forum doesn't seem like it's from an authorized serato TECH person.

the reason i don't want to use relative mode is when you hit cue it always plays. it doesn't operate as if a sampler how the CUE BUTTON on a CDJ always works.

http://serato.com/forum/discussion/239515

this is my problem:
SETTING CUE POINT ON CDJ IS ALWAYS SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF THE SERATO PLAYHEAD

this is what i posted:

when using the CDJ like how it would normally be used (when serato is in ABS mode) i park the SERATO PLAYHEAD where i want to set the CUE POINT on the CDJ. i hit cue button, the CDJ registers the CUE POINT normally, but when i hit the CUE BUTTON again to CUE my song the SERATO PLAYHEAD is always CUEING a couple mili-seconds ahead of where i just set it.

as a quick fix i've found i need to park the playhead behind the down beat i want to set as a CUE. in a loud club playing live and trying to mix quickly i can't be bothered w/ this handicap. it's unprofessional and not how the CDJs and SERATO where advertised to be used. using SERATO in RELATIVE mode isn't an option for me b/c after playing the CUE POINT, SERATO continues to play where as the CDJ CUE BUTTON is used as a sampler and only plays when the button is pressed.

i've tried using the VINYL OFFSET feature to fix it but this only advances the SERATO PLAYHEAD, ahead of the TIMECODE, not behind.

Been dealing with this for a while now, and it sucks because I use the Cue buttons (and hot cues) as samplers quite a bit - in fact, my CDJ1000 cue buttons need to be replaced because I mash on them so much.
(and no, using the cue buttons on a laptop is NOT the same)
There's no real fix to it (that I know of), but my workaround is this:
I usually set my cue point by hitting the 'In' button (on the CDJ loop feature) instead of hitting the cue button itself. It tends to be a little more accurate for some reason, but it's still not perfect. Just like you, I usually will adjust my cue point after it's set, so that it starts a frame or two into the sample, instead of before it (allowing for the issue with Serato). Try using the 'In' button, and see if it works for you.

This issue almost made me go back to CDs, actually. I'm really surprised that Serato doesn't have a 'cue sampler' option (well, I guess it could, but I haven't been able to find it).

The other solution is to skip the CD cues entirely, and use a midi controller instead. Set one midi key to trigger your sample, and then set another to pause or stop the track. Kind of a pain, but it works for me. I like to have one handy anyway just to chop up beats, instead of having to use my computer keyboard. I still haven't gotten used to using relative mode, so it's absolute mode for me at the moment.

I am not 100% that I am following you but here is what I do and let me know if thats somewhat on course.

- Load Track in Serato on ABS mode
- Load Serato CD in CDJ
- Press Play then hit it again to pause the track
- Move the Jog dail back to the place I want to cue from
- Hit cue
- This will set my cue and when I hit play on the CDJ, it starts from that point.

Now sometimes for whatever reason it kinda "messes me up" to look at whats displaying on Serato because it does not always seem to match up visually what I am hearing. Maybe thats the issue you are talking about?

Are you setting it from the cdj? or within serato?

On the CDJ itself. If you trigger cue points in Serato, they continue to play after you have released the button. When you use the CDJ cue button, the track will stop after you release the cue button (similar to a sampler).
I think the sampler within Serato works the same way as the Serato cue points, so using that won't solve the problem.

hitting the cue and then hitting play when i want to "release the record" the cue point i've set is always slightly ahead of where i pause the play head in serato.

jamie: i m setting cue point on cdj to control serato. not from within serato. i use serato in ABS mode so i can use the cue button as a sampler and so i don't have to touch the keyboard just to play my song.

cool. I really don't know about working the cdj's like that. I always use relative mode even on cdj's and just cue on the laptop.
